Biography
Irina Tiviane was born in St Petersburg and began her piano studies at the age of 5 at the prestigious Rimsky-Korsakov Music School. She then studied orchestral conducting and singing at the Higher Conservatory of Music. She developed her voice with teachers V. Mukovnikov and N. Okhotnikov, both soloists at the Mariinsky Opera Theatre in St Petersburg.
She continued her training for two years in Italy with Maria Luisa Cioni and Maestro Roberto Negri of La Scala in Milan.
She made her debut in Stravinsky's "The Nightingale" (Koukharotchka) and Wagner's "Parsifal" (Flower Maiden), under the direction of P. Boulez and S. Bychkov at the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Berlin Staatsoper. That same year, she sang with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra under the direction of G. Rinkevicius for the Auvers-sur-Oise Festival.
She was engaged for the title role in a contemporary production of Bizet's "Carmen" on a world tour of more than 200 performances: France (Paris-La Villette, Toulon, Montpellier, La Rochelle, Caen, Alès, Rennes, Grenoble, Tours, etc.), Belgium (Limbourg, Neerpelt, Bruges), Germany (Munich), Italy (La Spezia), the Netherlands (Alkmaar), Spain (Valladolid), Canada (Montreal), Venezuela (Caracas), etc.
Thanks to her perfect pitch and wide vocal range, she was chosen by the Belgian composer P. Boesmans to perform in his new work, "L'Annonce faite à Marie", at the Atelier Lyrique du Rhin and the Théâtre de l'Athénée in Paris.
She also worked with the Palestinian composer P. Lama, performing his works "Le Lit de l'étrangère" and "Kanaan" for the Canadian festivals "Pro Arte" in Quebec and "Mélodine" at the Opéra de Montréal.
She is regularly invited to perform as a soloist by international festivals including: "Prestige de la Musique, saison internationale" in Nouméa (New Caledonia), "Musique du monde" in Athens, "Sommets classiques" in Crans-Montana (Switzerland), Radio France Festival "Figures tragiques" in Paris, "Luxembourg, Capital of Culture" in Luxembourg, "Deventer On!" in Deventer (Netherlands), "Bonjour India" in Chennai, Hyderabad, Pondicherry and Delhi, "Perth International Arts Festival" in Perth (Australia), "Greenwich & Docklands International Festival" in London, "The Goyang Lake-Park Arts Festival" in Goyang (South Korea), "Santiago a Mil Festival" in Chile, "Roppongi Hills Arena" in Tokyo, "Sharjah Light Festival" in the United Arab Emirates, "Galway International Arts Festival" in Ireland, "Festival de Belo Horizonte" in Brazil, "Bat Yam Festival" in Israel, "Freedom Festival" in Hull (England), "Bradford Festival, City of Culture 2025" in England, "Torun Street Festival" in Poland, etc.
Irina Tiviane's repertoire includes exclusively title roles (Tosca, Butterfly, Carmen) and leading roles (Abigaille in "Nabucco", Eboli in "Don Carlos", Iphigénie in "Iphigénie en Tauride", Lisa in "The Queen of Spades", the Young Bride in Stravinsky's "Les Noces", etc.).
She has also performed Verdi's and Mozart's "Requiem", Rossini's "Stabat Mater", Vivaldi's "Gloria", Haydn's "Nelson Mass", Tchaikovsky's "Moscow Cantata", Beethoven's "Symphony No. 9", etc.
Recently, she has been heard as Eboli in Verdi's "Don Carlo" in Domodossola (Italy), as Abigaille in "Nabucco" at La Seine Musicale in Paris, as an invited soloist at the 10th International Cultural Festival of Symphonic Music at the new Algiers Opera, at the "Music and Arts Festival" in Cork (Ireland), and at the opening of the "Maifestspiele 2026" in Wiesbaden (Germany).
